Incorporated in 1969 as Data Specialties Inc., a manufacturer of high-speed electromechanical products, the company changed its focus to specialty on-demand labeling and ticketing systems in 1982, and became Zebra Technologies Corporation in 1986. Zebra had its initial public offering (IPO) in 1991; its shares are traded on the NASDAQ stock market under the symbol ZBRA. In 1998, Zebra merged with Camarillo, California-based Eltron International, Inc., a market-leading manufacturer of desktop bar code label and plastic card printers. In 2000, Zebra acquired Comtec Information Systems, a leader in innovative mobile printing solutions. The company manufactures and distributes Genuine Zebra Supplies from its facilities in Wisconsin, Rhode Island, and Preston, England. All products are now sold under the Zebra brand with the exception of Eltron-brand card printers.

Zebra's international distribution network encompasses more than 90 countries throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and the Pacific. Zebra Technologies Europe Limited, located in the United Kingdom, provides product and specialty label sales and support to European operations from its UK manufacturing plant. Zebra also has sales and support offices in France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina and Miami, Fla., which also serves Latin America in addition to Brazil and Argentina.
