DVD PAC PLUS

June 14, 2001   Scarborough, ME, USA

For Immediate Release

EAM is proud to announce the DVD-PAC Plus packaging system. This equipment is utilized in packaging DVD product in polypropylene albums that are currently popular for DVD retail packages.

The heart of DVD PAC Plus is based on the well established SSI-20 Automatic Slip Sheet Inserter. The disc place, and the booklet feed mechanisms are both adaptations of devices EAM has been building for other applications for many years.

Design criteria for this project revolved around providing DVD manufacturers or fulfillment houses the ability to remove man/hours from their manual packaging operation without spending exorbitant amounts of money on equipment to do so. This system may also be used for peak period overflow situations and short runs for those companies with full automation in house. Replicators, even many of the largest in this industry report that a significant portion of packaging orders is processed off-line. We understand this can be as much as 30% of orders dues to order size or special requirements. In discussions with various manufacturers who are presently packaging manually with well designed operations, it appears that the best throughput they can hope to achieve inserting the slip sheet, and placing one booklet and the disc is in the area of 5.5 to 6.5 MH/1000 (man hours per 1,000 units assembled). The system EAM is offering reduces this number to as low as 1.1 MH/1000.

The workstation approach is the result of many years of EAM's engineers working in high volume production environments in manufacturing engineering capacities, especially on start up programs that could not yet justify full automation. Utilizing this experience EAM has a compact, free-standing machine that is simple to operate and maintain. Overall packaging output can easily be increased simply by utilizing additional modules.
